Gold packages worth almost USD $39,099 were found hidden inside a chocolate bar in southern India's Chennai International Airport on January 7.

Footage shows smuggled items including a gold bar ingeniously concealed inside a Dairy Milk chocolate wrapper. Along with that, 14 molten chunks of yellow metal can also be seen resting on the counter. Several bundles of gold are also recovered amid other illicit assets.

The suspects carrying the gold were intercepted at the terminal of the airport.

A 25-year-old identified as Padma Balaji, who arrived via Emirates Flight EK 544 was intercepted. A bar of big chocolate was found concealed in innerwear. The wrapper contained a plastic packet with 660 grams (1.4 lbs) of gold paste.

On further examination, 546 grams (1.2 lbs) of the gold valued at USD $39,099 were recovered. She was arrested for smuggling items.

Other gold packages were discovered earlier in the week, totalling 3.72 kg (8.2 lbs) of 24k purity gold worth an estimated USD $268,438 were seized by Chennai Air Customs. An investigation into the matter is underway.
