This was the moment a shopper was taken by surprise by huge lines at the Redbank Plains shopping centre in Brisbane, Australia, after a three-day lockdown was announced.

Footage shows long queues of people waiting to get into the shops with little to no social distancing.

The three-day lockdown was announced by Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk after a hotel cleaner tested positive for the new UK strain of COVID-19.

The filmer told Newsflare: "I was a bit shocked, I was half-dressed expecting an in and out without checking the news and I just showed up and was so confused, thought it was some new collectable thing they do.

"I ended up going getting toilet paper and some snacks and things for the family so I didn’t need to leave the house over the weekend, went to McDonald’s instead to get milk and other essentials.

"By the time I left half an hour later the shopping centre was packed and there were no car parks outside or under the buildings.

"Cops were directing traffic."

Australia has a total of 28,500 coronavirus cases with 909 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

"I’m worried, it’s supposedly more contagious and my mother works in the city centre and suffers from health conditions such as MS and is high risk.

"Here’s hoping they get it under control, we’ve had easy living in Queensland so far." He later said.
