a rare sight...

with 2.8m wingspan the bearded vulture is a huge bird. In the swiss Alps he can be seen occasionnally. Here is a video filmed in slow motion of a very young bearded vulture, born wild in 2020, flying really close by, then sitting on a nearby rock for a few minutes , then flying again briefly to sit on another rock. The air was cold and heavy, with no wind nor updrafts so it was difficult or impossible to glide and fly on upward winds.

This bearded vulture was born in the wild in 2020, he has no gps nor markings nor is he ringed.

In summer 2020 another bearded vulture, dubbed Vigo , born in the wild in 2019 in France, made a rare appearance in the U.K. and spent several months there in the summer.

in summer the bearded vultures fly much higher but in winter they follow their food to the snow level to find bones of deer, ibex and chamoix.

cameras Panasonic X1500 for the flying scenes, Canon EOS R6 with RF800/11 lens for the scenes when the bird is on the ground.

video originally mute but edited with ambiance wind sound, created by myself so no copyright issues.
