Indonesia missing plane: We will search from the air and below the water's surface, say search and rescue officials
Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) held a press conference on Saturday regarding the earlier disappearance of the Sriwijaya SJ-182 plane for the Jakarta-Pontianak route.
"We received information on the aircraft loss contact at 14.55 WIB, we immediately coordinated with relevant stakeholders and moved the SAR team together with the SAR Potential to the location where the aircraft was suspected to have lost contact, namely between Lancang Island and Laki Island. The SAR team is still carrying out sweeping on the surface of these waters," said Bambang Suryo Aji, Deputy of Search and Rescue Operations and Basarnas Preparedness at a press conference in the lobby of the Basarnas Head Office.
As of Saturday night, the SAR team is still carrying out search efforts in the area. Furthermore, a SAR operation post is also being established at JICT 2 Tanjung Priok.
Basarnas itself has deployed personnel from the Head Office and the Jakarta SAR Office. The main equipment that moves to the location includes KN SAR Wisnu Jakarta, KN SAR Karna Pangkalpinang, and KN SAR Basudewa Lampung.
All ships are equipped with visual equipment both sea level and underwater. In addition, Basarnas will also carry out searching from the air, the agency said.
