Anti-Trump demonstrators gathered outside the office of Rep. Nicole Malliotakis on Saturday (January 9) in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.

The first-term congresswoman stood with other GOP House members on Wednesday in objecting to the electoral votes from two battleground states in the 2020 presidential election. Malliotakis also condemned the violence perpetrated by Trump supporters at the Capitol.

Chris McCreight, the Democratic District Leader for the 64th Assembly District and President of the Bay Ridge Democrats, said that by supporting the invocation of the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, or by supporting the impeachment of President Trump, Malliotakis “can save her dignity” and “take back some of what she’s already caused by doing those things and removing Donald Trump from office immediately."

“Let’s see what she does,” said New York State Senator Diane Savino (D). “Let’s see what she’s made of. I think she’s better than what she was the other day. God knows I hope so.”

New York City’s Public Advocate Jumaane Williams also addressed Wednesday’s violence at the Capitol: “If anybody saw the response of the police to that insurrection and recalled the response of the police to Black Lives Matter, and do not understand the disparity in this country, you’re now willfully ignorant and willfully complicit in the disparity.”
