Amazing footage from Yosemite National Park captures the spectacle of the significantly frozen Vernal Falls and offers a glimpse into the incredible rock structure underneath. Footage of the frozen waterfall was captured by Gayane Krikorova on Janurary 3rd while on a hiking expedition at the National Park. The famed Vernal Falls consist of a steep 317-foot drop that is visible from a great distance as well as up close while hiking along the Mist Trail. Footage recorded earlier in the year, also provided by Gayane for comparison, shows the falls in all their glory as a single curtain of water.

Seeing the falls during the winter has been a long-standing ambition of Gayane, who has been a regular visitor to the site every spring or early summer. This year she set a personal challenge to not let another winter pass without heading up to Yosemite.

Speaking about the video Gayane said: "I have always wanted to witness Yosemite in the winter. This time around I said to myself, I’m not going to let another winter pass by without heading up to Yosemite. Though I have hiked the mist trail many times in the past, doing it in the winter added a bit more challenge and ultimately excitement to the trek. The fall was still flowing yet was beautifully frozen at the bottom. As I reached the top of Vernal Falls, I began to notice more and more snow on the ground and the scenery around me transformed into all white.

I highly recommend visiting Yosemite whenever anyone gets the chance. I am beyond thrilled that I finally experienced winter in Yosemite and can’t wait to come back in the springtime!"
