Loud sonic boom heard over London after RAF Typhoon jets scrambled to intercept private plane
A loud sonic boom was heard across London and the East of England on Tuesday (January 12).
Surprised residents who heard the bang took to social media, sharing videos of the sound and trail of the aircraft in the sky.
Clips recorded by @javelinsam in Hornchurch, a suburban town in East London, and @dmurdo in Charlton, southeast London, capture the sonic boom at around 1 p.m.
A sonic boom was caused by an RAF Typhoon aircraft launched to intercept a plane that had lost communications.
