A team of forest officials rescued a male leopard that became caught in an illegal trap in northern India's Uttarakhand on January 12.

The incident took place in the Thano Range of the Forest Dehradun Block in the Dehradun district.

Footage of the rescue shows the rescue team tending to the big cat.

The team, headed by Ravi Joshi, started the operation by carefully cutting open the net that was trapping the leopard, making sure not to hurt the animal in the process. They then wrapped the leopard in a cloth sheet and placed it inside a cage.

Upon inspection, the leopard was found to be hurt and given immediate medical attention before being carried to safety.

According to local media, the illegal trap was for wild animals. Locals are reported to set them up for catching food.
