Bangkok's normally busy bars on popular tourist streets were deserted on Friday amid a tourism slow-down and second wave of Covid-19 cases.

Footage from the Sukhumvit Road in the heart of the Thailand capital shows how many businesses have been shuttered and locked up.

Nightclubs were ordered to close at the end of December while bars and restaurants must follow 9pm closing time guidelines, which the government believes will limit the chances of new coronavirus infections spreading.

Thailand's Krungsri Bank forecasts that it will be up to three years before tourism returns to its pre-pandemic tourism levels.

A further 230 new Covid-19 cases were recorded on Saturday (Jan 16) taking the overall total 11,450 with 70 deaths.
