Pub owners Greene King plan rename the historic Black’s Head Pub in Wirksworth, Derbyshire in an anti-racist stance
The Black’s Head Pub was temporally renamed the Sirius Blacks Head during the popular Wirksworth Wizarding Day, where all things in Wirksworth had a wizarding theme in celebration off J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter books & films.
The Black’s Head Pub is the finish line for the world famous annual Wirksworth wheelbarrow race.
Some locals the say that the pub was named after a ginger beer which was only sold in London & Wirksworth.
Others say that the first pub owner was Mr Black.
It's also thought that the pub name originated from the Blackamoor's.
The original Blacks Head sign is through to be a tribute to the black and Arabian people, who came here to mine lead, or from the black dirty faces of the miners & quarry men who worked nearby. The Blacks Head is an important reminder of the contribution those immigrants made.

NB: The footage of the The Sirius Black's Head Pub sign is archive footage.
