A tiger fell into a well in central India, sparking a desperate rescue attempt from local wildlife authorities.

A resident of Patour village, near the famed Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh, heard something massive falling into his 45-feet deep well at 10.45 pm on January 14.

When he went to check he heard the blood-curdling roar of a tiger from inside and quickly informed local forest department.

Officials from Tiger Protection Force rushed to the village and worked furiously for nearly six hours to save the animal, which was in danger of drowning in the well.

They tranquilized the tiger and pulled her out with the help of large nets. After it regained consciousness, the tiger was released deep in the forest.

“It was dark and we had to think out of the box. It was a difficult rescue,” said an officer.
