Former Cape Town Mayor for the Democratic Alliance, Patricia De Lille, took her former party to the Western Cape High Court, after they claimed in an election telemarketing campaign that she had been fired.

De Lille agreed to resign as executive mayor of Cape Town in 2018 after the Western Cape High Court ruled against the DA caucus in the City of Cape Town who dismissed her. She was then reinstated as Mayor.

The IEC (Independent Electoral Commission) last week ordered the Democratic Alliance to cease and desist from claiming De Lille was fired. They also ordered the party to publicly apologise to De Lille, which they have not done.

The presiding judge said he would not rule on the matter until a determination was made about the urgency of the matter.
