Custom officials seize Euros worth $9,688 from airport in southern India

Air Customs officials seized 8000 Euros (USD 9,676) worth Rs. 7.09 lakhs (USD 9,688) from southern India's Chennai International Airport on January 18. The suspect was intercepted at the airport.

Visuals witnessing the smuggled items feature a bundle wrapped with black adhesive tape. On opening the packet, Euros in the denomination of 50 and 100 are retrieved.

A 32-year-old passenger identified as Syed Abdul Razak, who was destined for Dubai by Air India Express Flight IX1643 was intercepted in the security hold area after he had cleared immigration on suspicion of carrying foreign currency. On search, 4000 Euros (USD 4,838) in the denomination of 50 was found concealed inside his handbag.

After further examination, one bundle wrapped with a black adhesive tape containing 4000 Euros (USD 4,838) in the denomination of 100 was recovered from the rectum. A total of 8000 Euros (USD 9,676) equivalent to Rs. 7.09 lakhs (USD 9,688) were seized. An investigation into the matter is underway.
