A pregnant cat was saved after being stuck inside a sculpture of a bear’s head at a cafe in Thailand.

Sopa Yaken, a waitress at the Fire Bear Tea Shop, smelled something strange ‘like a spoilt milk’ so she searched the shop in Saraburi province on January 15.

The smell was stronger on the area where a huge bear head sculpture stood as the shop’s mascot.

The staff checked inside the four-inch hole and saw two blue eyes lighting up in the dark

She said: ‘I smelled some spoilt milk and was looking around until I saw the cat with blue eyes.’

Sopa called the emergency services for help and a rescue team arrived with a long pole to lure the moggie out.

They poked the cat around the hole and it dodged the jabs, eventually deciding to climb out of the hole.

The pregnant stray ran out of the shop through the bear’s mouth as the relieved staff looked on.

One of the rescuers said the cat probably went inside because it was chased by another animal.

He said: ‘I think the cat was looking for a safe hiding place against other animals or a home while it was pregnant.’
