This clip shows the iridescence of a Mexican black kingsnake's scales as it moves through the hands of its owner.

Footage from April 2020 shows the cool-looking snake called Jett with its handler near Fresno, California.

Filmer Chad of Gold Coast Exotics said the video was "taken in real-time," despite the illusion-like movements by the animal.

He explained: "This is the belly of a Mexican Black Kingsnake - Lampropeltis Getulus Nigritus - named Jett.

"He is one of several, that I keep at my breeding facility.

"They are a medium-sized harmless snake from parts of Northern Sinaloa, Mexico.

"While they are harmless and make great pets they, like many other Kingsnakes, are known to eat venomous rattlesnakes in the wild.

"The video captures the iridescent properties that some snake scales possess.

"This snake is not shedding but simply moving through my hand.

"Many different snake species will have some iridescence but it comes through more boldly with a nice pure black backdrop.

"It is caused by the light being refracted off of iridophores in their skin.

"Handling these snakes does not cause them any harm and they are fun and intriguing pets.

"I’ve been fascinated by snakes for as long as I can remember and I’ve kept and bred many different snake species over the last 35 years."
