Leopard has lucky escape after hyenas distracted by noise let their prey flee
This was the incredible moment a pack of hyenas ambush a leopard up a tree while it's eating an impala it caught.
The clip, filmed in February 2013, shows the leopard leaping up a tree to get away from a pack of hyenas attempting to steal his kill.
The 70-minute ordeal ended with the hyenas overcoming the leopard and chasing it away into the bushes.
Wildlife enthusiast Bob Humphries explained to Newsflare: "The leopard dashed up the leadwood, panting and stressed, and spent quite a while looking down at the hyenas below. After relaxing a bit, the leopard moved the impala carcass and began eating it.
"We could not see how the leopard could escape with the hyenas waiting below. As the leopard began to descend the tree the hyenas turned towards it, but then they were distracted by the passing of a noisy truck.
"The leopard took its chance and dashed off through the grass with a hyena in pursuit, leaving the impala remains in the tree," he continued.
