This was the moment government workers in India claimed a driverless bus turned its engine on and started moving,

CCTV footage from a government-owned Rapur bus depot in Nellore, southern India shows the "spooky" incident where the vehicle rolls across the forecourt and climbed a few steps before coming to a halt.

Officials said the driver of the bus had parked the vehicle at the depot on Monday night.

The engine started on its own at 3 am and the bus moved for 100 meters.

It climbed a few steps of the building where the passengers waited and stopped without causing any damage.

A lone passenger, who was waiting for his bus and was an eyewitness, fled in terror.

While many depot staff fear that the bus may have been haunted, an officer said the freak movement was possibly triggered by faulty electrical wiring in the engine.
