The fossilised remains of a 98-million-year-old dinosaur that have been discovered in Argentina are speculated to those of the biggest land animal in history.

Footage captured on January 18 in Neuquén show archaeologists with the discovered remains.

Additional still images show the fossils and the specialist work with the bones.

Archaeologists have stated that the bones belong to a titanosaur dinosaur, which belongs to the sauropod family.

This species has a very long neck and fossils are usually found in South America.

According to the report presented by the journal Cretaceous Research, they reveal: "A giant titanosaur sauropod from the Candeleros Formation of the province of Neuquén, composed of an articulated sequence of 20 more anterior plus four posterior caudal vertebrae and several appendicular bones."

The scientists argued that "it is considered one of the largest sauropods ever found, probably outnumbering Patagotitan."

The fossil remains of a dinosaur that lived 98 million years ago were found in Neuquén and scientists estimate that it would be the largest land animal in history.

It is a titanosaur dinosaur, belonging to the sauropod family, with an extremely long neck and whose presence was mostly in South America, according to specialists from Conicet (National Council for Scientific and Technical Research of Argentina).

In that sense, Patagotitan mayorum, which until now was considered the largest dinosaur, also comes from the sauropod family.

The record of large titanosaurs was traditionally too fragmentary, although recent discoveries of more complete taxa have revealed significant anatomical information that was previously unavailable due to preservation biases.

On January 10, from the National University of Comahue (UNCo) they reported that staff from the company Pampa Energía had found fossil remains belonging to a herbivorous dinosaur that lived 100 million years ago, in the Sierra Chata area, north of the town of Añelo in the province of Neuquén.

"The fossil remains correspond to a herbivorous dinosaur, probably from the Rebbachisauridae family. These dinosaurs, which were distributed in the supercontinent Gondwana, have been recorded mainly in Africa and South America. The remains, despite being fragmentary, belong they allow to provide relevant information of this group", indicated the UNCo in a statement, among other Argentine media.

Likewise, it pointed out that "the findings come geologically from the Candeleros Formation, of the Neuquén Group, which is approximately 100 million years old (Late Cretaceous)".
