A Chinese man was arrested after allegedly being caught with fake designer sunglasses worth $10 million dollars.

Chang Li Lee, 42, reportedly imported fake goods from China and hid them in rooms above a cinema in Bangkok, Thailand.

Officers from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) raided four rooms he allegedly rented to hide the sunglasses – including copies of Ray-Ban, Gucci, Oakley, Cartier, and Chanel.

When the officers arrived, they found several boxes piled up inside the rooms, which had been converted into warehouses.

The boxes contained an estimated three million pairs of sunglasses sorted into different designer brands.

They were bound for markets across Thailand before being intercepted by eagle-eyed police.

DSI Director-General Police Lieutenant Colonel Kornwatch Panprapakorn said the Chinese man also violated health standards by selling the fake glasses.

He said: ‘Some of the sunglasses were not up to standards and may have caused damage to the eyes of people who use them.

‘Anyone who has sunglasses that are fake is putting their eyes at risk and damaging the companies that produce the original items.’

Chang Li Lee was taken to the police station for questioning and is expected to be charged with offences related to intellectual property infringement.

Investigations are ongoing to find how the Chinese man was able to import the fake goods and where he distributed them.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Kornwatch added: ‘This is a special case that must be processed under the Special Investigation Act and Intellectual Property Litigation Division to prevent and suppress intellectual property infringement. The laws where intellectual property is infringed are strictly enforced.’
