Thousands of people were seen lining up for COVID-19 tests in Beijing on Friday (January 22) as the city is going to test over 2,000,000 residents in two days.

According to local media, a newspaper employee in Xicheng District was tested positive for coronavirus. So all residents in Xicheng District and a part of Dongcheng District have to be tested for COVID-19.

The national's biggest holiday, Lunar New Year, is feared to cause a massive uptick in coronavirus cases as people will be traveling back home to reunite with their families.

Shanghai reportedly also tested all hospital staff as the nation battles its worst outbreak of the coronavirus since March 2020.

Long lines formed outside COVID-19 testing centers across Beijing as the city launched citywide testing on Friday, January 22.
