Green party candidate's awkward interview about personal air travel

A video has emerged of Green Party parliamentary candidate Daniel Goldsmith responding awkwardly to questions about his personal travel.

Goldsmith, who will stand for the Green Party in the next Parliamentary Election for Brentford and Isleworth supports the party's policy which advocates a “drastic reduction in the number of journeys made by air for whatever purposes” and has publicly opposed the expansion of Heathrow airport.

However, during the interview with Brentford TV on Friday, he admits to having flown thousands of miles in the last year, including return trips to Australia, Singapore and Malaysia.

“I’m guilty as charged,” he can be head saying to the interviewer at the end of the footage.

“Should I have resigned my job? Maybe I should have done. I don’t know, maybe I did the wrong thing. I could have done. Maybe I still will…[The wife] was livid.”

Goldsmith tells the interviewer he has off-set all of his flights by making donations to the Woodland Trust to plant trees to “remove the greenhouse gases”.

The footage has emerged one day after Green Party leader Natalie Bennett apologised to party members for what she said was a “very bad” radio interview about housing policy.
