A dramatic video has emerged of a line of cars on fire on a street in Caen, France.

The footage, shot early on Wednesday morning from a building overlooking the scene, shows firefighters trying to extinguish a fire stretching several meters along the Rue de Falaise.

According to local reports, the fire started in a dumpster and quickly spread to a nearby car.

The heat of the fire melted the fuel tank of the car, which spilled flaming petrol down the street, lighting three other cars on fire.

Six cars and two dumpster were involved in the blaze in total.

No injuries were reported.

It is not clear yet whether the fire was a criminal act or not.
