Dramatic helicopter mountain rescue on Mt Seymour, BC, Canada

Buy video

I filmed the at 11:42am on Saturday January 23, 2021. I used my iPhone. The location is Mt Seymour, North Vancouver, along the Pump Peak trail in British Columbia, Canada. One of the hikers on the trail had a mishap, a fractured leg, and a distress 911 call was made. It took close to two hours for the rescuers to reach the area. A few hikers stayed with the gentleman until the North Shore Rescue (NSR) arrived in talon helicopter, performed first-aid, moved the hiker carefully to the extraction point, and orchestrated the rescue. I was standing mere meters from the rescue operation, which involved four rescuers (three were dropped in by helicopter) on the ground and the pilots. I moved about 50 yards from the landing spot to avoids the downwash and to get a better vantage point. And that’s how I shot the video, being at the right place and at the right time to witness the dramatic helicopter extraction. The whole landing, extraction and take off took 3 minutes. The video is unedited.

The North Shore Rescue (RSC) Talon helicopter is equipped with new night-vision imaging systems. Previously, that kind of high-tech had only been restricted to other organizations like the police or military.

The rapid response, first-aid care, and level of by team was all there to see. The precision flying and perfectly executed landing & take-off brilliant.

Luckily for the hiker, the flying conditions couldn’t be more perfect and the rescue was successful. That’s not always the case.
