A woman in northern India fought with her husband and jumped into a well, prompting a heart-stopping rescue operation.

Footage from the rescue on December 15 at Mahavatpur Ashat village in Uttar Pradesh shows the woman slip from the arms of a police officer and fall back into the well.

Later another man brought the woman up to safety, where she was admitted to the nearest hospital for treatment and recovered well.

The four-hour rescue operation was aided by local villagers and Superintendent of Police, Satpal Antil has assured they will be rewarded for their efforts.

At Mahavatpur Ashat village in Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh in India, a woman fought with her husband, and jumped into a well. Villagers gave the information to the police, who took the woman out of the well with the help of the villagers. But during the rescue, which was difficult because of the darkness and the depth of the well, the woman slipped and was accidentally dropped once by a police man. But another man went down and both brought the women up to safety. She was admitted to the nearest hospital for treatment and she recovered well. The 4-hour rescue operation was lauded by the villagers. Superintendent of Police Satpal Antil said the woman was saved by Kishanpur station. He said they will be rewarded for their effort.
