Two men, Jaco Pretorious and Dante van Wyk, appeared in Kuilsriver Magistrate’s Court for assaulting members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) on November 9, 2020, in Brackenfell, South Africa.

Jaco Pretorious was arrested on the day for firing a gun into the air as the mob advanced on mostly female EFF supporters. It is not known when Dante van Wyk was arrested and had his first court appearance.

Clashes erupted outside a school in Brackenfell on December 9 after it was alleged that staff had excluded black students from a prom event.

File footage shows Dante van Wyk and Jaco Pretorious at the confrontation on the day. Van Wyk is seen telling the media that supporters of the EFF won’t be allowed to cause trouble in Brackenfell. Van Wyk is also seen throwing punches at EFF members.

The case has been postponed to February 19.
