A rogue elephant learned its lesson not to mess with strange objects after getting its tusks trapped inside a water drum.

The young male tusker slipped through a metal fence erected to keep wild animals out and strayed into Ballur Hundi village near Nanjangud in southern India on January 24.

Footage of the incident shows the elephant's tusks pierced into a drum as the animal struggles to shrug it off.

According to local media, upon straying into Ballur Hundi village, the elephant ransacked the farm for food, where it came across two large drums kept to store water by a local farmer Krishna.

The elephant then turned its rage onto one of the drums and tried to rip into it, trapping itself.

After 10 minutes, the elephant managed to free itself and a team of forest officials, who arrived at the village, managed to drive it back into the forest.
