A wild elephant that went on a small rampage in a Thai village in the province of Chonburi was rescued and returned back to the wild after damaging people's homes and scaring locals.

Footage from January 23 shows the large mammal in the bushes as hundreds of wildlife officials joined the operation.

Volunteers joined the officials in attempting to get the jumbo back in the forest to protect local buildings and to bring peace of mind to residents.

Elephants will wander into villages due to what was formerly jungle and forest areas have now been turned into agricultural land and combined with the increase in population.

The now 4,000 elephants in the wild will make their way through residential areas by mistake, usually scaring residents.
