Traditional donkey fair organized on special occasion in western India
On the occasion of Paush Purnima, a traditional donkey exhibition was organized in western India's Maharashtra on January 27. The incident took place in Jejuri.
A video witnessing the incident features a donkey market organized during the daytime. Various traders from different cities can be spotted with their pets tagged with pink colour during the fair. Locals are gathered in the region to witness this occurrence in the city.
Dealers seem to be having a great time as they sell these creatures for an enormous amount of money. A researcher present on the spot discovers that the milk and urine of these animals are used to make several forms of medicines.
On the occasion of Paush Purnima, this fair was organized in Jejuri. Traders from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Karnataka also arrived to exhibit their donkeys. This year there was a significant increase in the number of animals and a turnover of Rs. 6 crores (USD 8,20,945) was accomplished within three days.
The donkeys were valued by their teeth and colour and were valued at Rs. 80 thousand (USD 1094). Over the years, this market has been declining. But due to the increasing demand for its milk, a researcher from Punjab named Sharat Verma came from Punjab to conduct his research.
He mentioned the use of the products collected from these creatures. He, therefore, requested the government to pay special attention to these animals in the future because countries like China have begun demanding these domesticated animals from India.
