China's Spring Festival travel season has seen a plunge in trips being made due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The video, filmed in the city of Beijing on January 28, shows infrared temperature measure being installed at the gate of Beijing Railway Station to check commuters' temperatures and workers in protective clothings disinfecting the hall.

Dozens of commuters with masks on their faces walked into the station to board the first train for the Spring Festival travel.

According to reports, travellers have to have safety check and their temperature being checked before entering the waiting hall.

The station will be disinfected once in every two hours and people can use their Wechat to scan a code to get a free mask from four self-service machines.

Only about five of 15 security gates were open at Beijing Railway Station and the occupancy rate of the seats on the first train was only 22 percent.

Governments in the country have recently been encouraging people to stay where they work instead of going back to their hometowns to celebrate Lunar New Year.

According to the Chinese Ministry of Transport, China's 2021 Spring Festival travel rush is estimated to see around 1.152 billion trips, around 60 percent lower than that of 2019.
