Residents in parts of south London woke up today (January 28) to find discoloured water running through their taps.

Footage shows Wimbledon resident @NahianK demonstrating how his tap water has a hint of brown running through it.

Concerned residents from Tooting, Wimbledon, Croydon and Mitcham reported the same issue.

Local resident and filmer Nahian told Newsflare: "As a resident in southwest London, waking up and starting our day we are left with no clean water from our taps for several hours. Thames Water updated and apologised for the inconvenience and water returned to somewhat normal 4-5 hours later after flushing the system.

"Affected areas include SW17, SW18, SW19, SW20, CR0 and CR4. This includes Wimbledon, South-Wimbledon, Raynes Park, Croydon, Mitcham, Wandsworth, Tooting."

Thames Water has launched an investigation into the issue.

In a statement issued on Thursday evening, the company said: "Our engineers are continuing to make good progress clearing the discoloured water which has caused problems for some customers in and around [London] SW17."

The company said locals could pick up bottled water from a local supply station.
