Man experiencing Cabin Fever in lockdown goes Paddle boarding in his village stream
Nick, a board riding enthusiast who had to postpone his January bookings, decided if he went out solo he could Stand Up Paddle in his local village stream. Stand up paddleboarding, or SUP, is a water sport born from surfing with modern roots in Hawaii. Stand up paddle boarders stand on boards that are floating on the water, and use a paddle to propel themselves through the water. The sport was documented in a 2013 report that identified it as the outdoor sporting activity with the most first-time participants in the United States that year. It's understood this is the first time anyone has 'SUP'ed the Tillingborne stream in Shere village, Surrey- as the water depth is on only 15 inches ..,Missing the adrenaline Nick decided to drop in the weir too. Nick says micro rapids are actually alot of fun and good upper limb strength training when facing head on... Stand Up Paddleboarding numbers have spiked through the roof during Lockdown, with 19,000 new members signing up to British canoeing (a requirement to use Uk's waterways..) just in the last 3 months . Maybe this video will inspire other SUP owners who don't live near the sea to get out there for their 1 hour of permitted exercise. Nick says it's a great leveller for you own Mental health :)
