Scandal after 12 kids in India administered hand sanitiser instead of polio vaccine
In a case of medical negligence, nurses in western India administered 12 children aged between one and five with hand sanitiser instead of polio dose drops.
The incident took place in Yavatmal, Maharashtra, on February 2 at a primary healthcare centre in a village.
The children have since been admitted to hospital and are in a stable condition, expected to be discharged late today.
The Government of Maharashtra has suspended the three nurses involved and launched an inquiry. Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope expressed shock over the incident and maintained that the health of the children involved is the state's top priority.
