Emergency rescue teams were today (Tue) continuing a frantic search for a car swept away in a flooded river over fears an elderly couple were inside.

Police, fire and ambulance crews raced to the scene in Hoveringham, Notts., after a vehicle was spotted drifting down the River Trent on Monday afternoon (1/2).

The car entered the water near Boat Lane at around 4.15pm and there have been unconfirmed reports from residents that two pensioners were inside.

Police were joined by crews from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service throughout the evening.
