Massage parlours under strain from Covid-19 are giving special promotions to attract customers in Thailand.

A popular Thai massage spa in Khon Kaen province reduced its price from 400 Baht to 300 Baht for two hours of service.

The spa has been operating for five years now and has ten massage therapists serving local and foreign customers who visit their province.

However, Duanghathaitip Promthep, the spa owner said, they needed the gimmicks to stay afloat as fewer people visited their business.

She said: ‘I wish the government would help each person individually during these tough times.

‘We also struggled with keeping all of our employees aside from keeping a steady profit.’

The distressed owner added that she spends 45,000 Baht for rent and another 30,000 Baht for operating expenses so it had been tough.

She said: ‘I hope we can overcome it and attract the customers with our discounts.’

Thailand has recorded a relatively low 19,618 Covid-19 infections and 77 deaths but the impact on the tourism-dependent economy has been devastating.
