Residents in Yangon took part in widespread disobedience yesterday evening (February 2) by banging pots and pans.

Footage shows a residential area in the city where hundreds of residents are heard banging their makeshift drums.

The military coup took place in the early hours of February 1 with leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other politicians being detained.

Since then the military junta has announced a year-long state of emergency and a nightly curfew.

The filmer explained: "Beating a drum in Myanmar culture is like we are kicking out the devils."

Aung San Suu Kyi was charged with illegally importing walkie-talkies and faces up to three years in jail.

Many people in Myanmar are against the military coup and have taken part in civil disobedience and many health workers are protesting the deposition of Aung San Suu Kyi.
