Thousands of red and pink lights adorned the streets of Khon Kaen, northern Thailand, as locals celebrated both Chinese New Year and Valentine’s day.

Colourful lights were placed along roads, including pink butterflies adorning the electric poles today (Feb 3).

Besides red lanterns found in Chinese shrines, lights were also used to celebrate the success of the prevention of Covid-19 in the area.

Theerasak Teekapan, mayor of Khon Kaen, said: ‘I would like to thank everyone who followed our strict preventive measures of COVID-19. The patients have all recovered and gone back home. The lights are the expression of our gratitude.’
