Photographer captures saucer-like cloud cloaking Mount Fuji's famed snow-capped cone
"Snow-capped, symmetrically cone-shaped and awe-inspiringly tall, Mount Fuji has for centuries provided Japanese with something of a spiritual backbone, attracting hundreds of thousands of climbers every year."
That's how the Japan Times described venerable Fujisan in one recent report. But now video has emerged showing the mountain's exceptionally symmetrical cone HIDDEN by a stunning, saucer-like cloud formation.
Local photographer Makoto Hashimuki captured this amazing footage of Mount Fuji and a beautiful lenticular cloud hiding its famous cone on February 2, amassing over 300,000 views on social media.
"I have experienced various miracles through Mount Fuji. Like this video, the shade cloud (lenticular cloud) and the hanging cloud will give you a wonderful impression as many times as you like," Hashimuki told Newsflare.
Mount Fuji, the highest mountain peak in Japan, is actually an active volcano but more than 300 years have elapsed since its last eruption, in 1707.
According to NASA, Fuji's snow cap has been much smaller this year due to warmer temperatures. Last year's climbing season, from early July to early September, was disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. Climbing the mountain's trails is not permitted during winter months.
