More than 100 people are feared dead after a glacier broke up today (February 7) in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand and triggered an avalanche.

Two rivers, Alaknanda and Dhauliganga, flooded massively forcing the evacuation of thousands and damaging the nearby Rishiganga and NTPC power plants.

Teams from the police, the army and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), as well as from the national and state disaster response forces, have been deployed in search and rescue operations.

Disaster response teams have been deployed and the Army has committed four columns; three helicopters are conducting aerial surveys.

Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) spokesperson Vivek Kumar Pandey said 250 paramilitary personnel had been deployed.

He said members of three different ITBP teams had filmed these clips.
