Storm Darcy: Heavy fog and technical fault closes East Midlands Airport
East Midlands Airport in Leicestershire was forced to close for a number of hours on the 06/02/21 after heavy fog swept across the area resulting in low visibility. Due to the fog the airport was put into low visibility procedure but after one of the back up generators developed a fault the airport was forced to close whilst the issue was resolved.
As the back up generator controlled lighting and other low visibility equipment at the airport, all movement was restricted.
The fog swept across the region as storm Darcy bought freezing temperatures to the East Midlands.
