Man who assaulted journalist appears in court and apologises on camera

Craig Peiser, the man who was arrested for assaulting Enca journalist Monique Mortlock, arrived at the Simonstown Magistrates Court for his first appearance.

Peiser who was joined at court by a few supporters then approached an Enca cameraman and issued an on camera apology and spoke directly to the camera.

Peiser was arrested on Saturday 6 February after Mortlock laid several charges against him after she alleged that he removed her mask and swore at her. He was released on bailed later that day and warned to appear on Monday 8 February.

Peiser’s bail was canceled after he allegedly swore at both the magistrate and prosecutor and also allegedly threw his mask at the magistrate. He has been remanded in custody and will be sent for psychiatric evaluation. He is expected to appear in court on Wednesday 10 February.
