Beautiful video shows a Lincolnshire shire horse go logging despite Storm Darcy snow

Not put-off by heavy snowfall brought by Storm Darcy, horse logger Jonathan Booty uses his 8-year-old shire horse Frank to clear timber from a beautiful, 3 hectare (7.4 acre) mixed woodland near Holywell, Lincolnshire close to the border with Rutland in the East of England.

Compared to heavy vehicles and machines the pair leave almost no trace of their work despite the slippery and wet conditions, making this kinder to the environment.

Booty and other horse loggers across the UK are often called to work in Sites of Special Scientific Interest where there is unique or rare flora and fauna where the woodland has to be managed carefully.

Frank’s thick coat protects him from the cold and he works outside all-year round.

"The nature of the job is we work in all weathers, don't we Frank?" explains Booty in the video. "This is actually really quite pleasant, very picturesque. It is fantastic scenery and it's so nice to be out here."

He adds: "Frank lives out all-year round. He is very hardy, he's got a very thick wooly winter coat. He's in his element in this environment."
