People in a south China beach spotted a young killer whale stranded offshore on Saturday, during the super-typhoon Sammasun.

The most serious typhoon in 40 years that made its landfall earlier on the day in south China's Guangdong Province and neighboring Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, also beached the 3.2-meter-long killer whale.

Lifeguards and frontier defense police officers tried to carry the young whale back into deep water, but high winds and strong waves kept pushing the unfortunate whale back onto the shore.

The rescuers had to keep splashing water on the trapped animal.

Finally after 150 minutes, the young whale was back safe and sound in the South China Sea.
