A Filipino man dressed in a Spider-Man costume and bought Oriental delicacies at a store to mark Chinese New Year.

Carlo Angelo Garces, 33, went to an authentic Chinese deli goods shop in Manila, the Philippines on Spring Festival eve (February 11).

He bought assorted items of lucky charms, round fruit, and sticky rice desserts which traditional Chinese beliefs suggest could help attract prosperity.

Onlookers were amused to see the man walk around Binondo Chinatown wearing the iconic Marvel character suit, watching him go through the shelves of sweet treats.

The Spider-Man fanatic said he wears the suit because wanted to spread happiness wherever he goes while doubling it as his personal protective gear against Covid-19.

He said: ‘This is my way of spreading good vibes to the people. It also serves as a protective gear since it’s a full-body suit.’

Binondo was established in 1594 by a colonialist Spanish governor intended for Chinese immigrants who wanted to live in the country.

Now, it has become the biggest Chinatown in the country which has two, the other one further south in Davao City.

Chinese New Year, Spring Festival, or the Lunar New Year, is one of the most important traditional celebration in China which marks the beginning of the lunisolar Chinese calendar.

The calendar is marked by unique zodiac signs where 2021 falls on the year of the Ox.
