Pedestrians and drivers took their lives in their hands on Thursday (February 11) to cross a blocked section of a major highway during landslides.

Falling rocks and earth hit the Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway near Srinagar in Uttarakhand.

When teams with diggers came to clear the road, further landslides were triggered which completely blocked the highway.

Impatient drivers and pedestrians began to cross the treacherous section of road even as rocks tumbled down the mountainside, in some cases missing them by only a few feet.

The blockage was eventually cleared after several hours.

No injuries were reported, according to local media.

A landslide occurred on the Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway near Srinagar in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district on Thursday. This is a major highway connecting Badrinath and Rishikesh.

The landslide started with small stones and sands. when the rescue teams clearing the debris and removing the stones from the highway,a major landslide happened which blocked the highway completely.

Due to the landslide vehicles and public movement was halted for several hours till the rescue teams cleared the debris.

The impatient crowd and vehicles started crossing the highway even though the landslide was happening on a smaller scale and ignoring the risk of being washed away. A man crosses the highway, running for his safety a huge piece of rock started falling from the hill and he narrowly escaped. A video of the landslide shows a huge storm of dust rise as the debris falls and blocks the road. Video of a car also seen missing the landslide in seconds.

Due to the landslide traffic was halted for several hours and cleared only after the rescue teams cleared the debris.No injury was reported from this incident.
