Forest officials in Dangi Dahar, Madhya Pradesh, managed to haul an Asian antelope out from a 40-foot-deep well on Sunday (February 14).

Officials were alerted after locals found the animal in the well on Sunday morning.

Footage shows the nilgai, the largest Asian antelope species, trapped at the bottom of the pit as officials plan their rescue effort.

The rescue team managed to haul the nilgai up out of the well using a large net and some ropes.

Officials later released the antelope into a forest in the Parsoriya region after the two hour rescue.

Forest officials rescued a Nilgai that fell into a 40-feet-deep well in central India's Madhya Pradesh on February 14.

The incident took place in the Dangi Dahar region of the Sagar district.

A video shows the team of forest officials rescuing the animal from a colossal well.

Initially, they tie a rope around its neck and later lower a net into the well. They use the rope to guide the Nilgai onto the net. Once done, the officials start pulling it up from either side.

The Nilgai displays signs of agitation as the officials, along with the locals, pull it to safety. Upon reaching the land, the Nilgai makes a run for it, following which an official chases it across the field.

The Nilgai fell into the well on Saturday night, following which a local alerted the South Forest Division Sub-Divisional Officer, Seema Dwivedi, the next morning. The officials immediately swung into action and rescued the animal from the well.

The rescue team of the South Forest Division, headed by Chandrapratap Singh, included Akash Pasi, Heeralaal Yadav, Lakhan Patel, Uttam Razak, Deepak Raikwar, and Purushottam Namdev. The team rescued the Nilgai in two hours and released it into the forest cover of the Parsoriya region.
