This was the terrifying moment a taxi driver in Lichfield, Staffordshire, was forced to lock in an aggressive non-paying customer.

The footage captured on February 7 captured the moment from the point of payment failure outside the passenger's destination, with additional shots of damage done by the passenger.

The passenger claims that the person inside the building will be paying for him and wants to go inside to collect the funds, but the taxi driver knew that it would be the last he saw of the passenger.

The passenger becomes incredibly agitated and aggressive at this point claiming that he has a knife.

The taxi driver calls his taxi base and the police and turns away from the passenger's original destination.

As the police are alerted and tracking the location, it's now a waiting game and the passenger is continuing his reign of aggression with the threats of a bladed article and kicking the inside of the vehicle in an attempt to get out.

Eventually, the panic-stricken driver pulls over next to a police car and asks for help.

The officers acted quickly and arrested the man.

The filmer said: "[The] male was handcuffed at the scene and put in the back of a police car, which he also tried to damage.

"Police viewed my dashcam footage and downloaded the files needed for evidence.

"The defendant pleaded guilty to charges brought against him at Newcastle under Lyme Magistrates Court the following day (February 8).

"He was fined £80 plus court costs of £135 and ordered to pay a small amount of compensation."
