A Banksy artwork of a girl hula-hooping a tyre has been removed from a wall in Nottingham after a gallery purchased the piece.

The slab of brick was cut out on Wednesday (February 17) morning from a wall on Rothesay Avenue.

Two residents remembered when the piece was first seen and there were queues of people wanting to get a glimpse of the art.

The artwork was removed after a gallery paid a six-figure sum.

Nottingham residents awoke this morning to find their beloved Banksy mural gone after city council working removed it, claiming for safeguarding reasons. One resident was annoyed that the council had left the shop it was once on vulnerable to break in as the only thing keeping people out was a piece of thin wood. Others were critical of the condition of the street and road after the council removed the brick wall which had the famous art work on.

Two students who live on Rothesay Avenue in Radford said they were shocked they didn't hear it being removed as they only live just down from it.
