South Africa has been through a 7-year drought and this year due to heavy tropical storms the drought seems to be broken. High rainfall inland resulted in a lot of water coming down the orange river that runs into the Atlantic ocean. The floodwaters were so high the water burst the banks along the river and flooded vineyards all around the towns Keimoes and Kakamas. It caused a lot of damage to the farmers and the roads were also damaged. The orange river is the longest river within the borders of South Africa and the Orange River Basin extends extensively from Lesotho into South Africa and Namibia to the north.
