Terrapin scrambles for a top spot in the sun
Pan Hinged Terrapins (Pelusios subniger) are found in Kruger National Park and are the smallest terrapin species found there. Terrapins often climb onto logs and rocks to sun themselves. These Pan Hinged Terrapins had a shortage of rocks and logs available for them to climb on to in their pool in the Bume River in southern Kruger. The largest terrapin to climb out of the water had a hard time inserting itself into the stack of sunning turtles – it displaced a smaller turtle to do so.
