Student in Indonesia suffers from swelling in his knee, suspected to be due to a rare benign tumor
The knee of a teenager named Bintang Herlambang (18 y.o), a resident of Agam district, West Sumatra province suddenly swelled up to the size of a football after back injury surgery.
Bintang's father, Dodi Indra Wakidi, said that his son's illness began when Bintang suffered a back injury after falling to play futsal with his friends in September 2020.
After being treated for a week in hospital, Bintang was then outpatient. Until December 2020, Bintang was brought back to the hospital for spinal surgery.
According to Dodi, after the operation, the medical staff said that his son was suffering from a benign tumor with rare cases.
In addition, on the knee of Bintang's right leg there was also a small, bluish bruise, which was thought to be the same tumor that was operated on on his back.
"The tumor was initially from the spine, then operated on. It wasn't until after the operation on the back that the small blue swelling on the knee grew bigger," said Dodi.
As of Monday (February 22), Bintang's family is still waiting for the MRI results or radiological examinations on Bintang's knee.
To Bintang's family, the medical staff suspected that the patient had a rare case of benign tumors, so the medical staff had to look for references.
While waiting for the surgery schedule for Bintang, the medical staff placed an IV and added blood to normalize Bintang's health.
Doctors will also form a special team to deal with Bintang's illness.
